Hello beautiful souls,

This is the first post that opens this clean canvas. It’s been a while since I had a platform in which I can speak my true voice and I am very excited to bring writing back into my practice.

This journal will be my sacred space and my own private bubble where I will talk about different topics that caught my attention and really anything that aligns with my values as an artist and a human being.

About the intentions behind the playlist

In the past year, I’ve been putting my attention on becoming the “Happy Wanderer”.

I first ran into this term while watching the tv series “The Sopranos”.

What it basically means for me is to be present in the now moment- to hold within a calm, joyful mindset everywhere I go, it’s to be able to live fully in my body no matter where I am.

I used to (and still do sometimes) really care for how other people perceive me, I was preparing in my head every move, act or word before actually acting on that.

I never felt like MYSELF outside my home. The moment I walked outside the door into the crowded streets, my mind began covered with fog and stress.

The thing that helped me the most was going to a therapist, doing shadow work, doing daily meditations, morning yoga routine, moving in with my boyfriend, and taking a long break from stressful work. All of the above helped me build a stronger core and foundations which I could grow from.

I am so happy and proud of myself that I can be exactly who I am today, to own my voice and to be able to feel much more clarity on what it is that I want to achieve in this lifetime. To be free wherever I go, to breathe more fully, and see the world from a clearer point of view.

I want to share with you a playlist I created with the intention of feeling joy, clarity, and mindfulness. I love to press on shuffle and listen to it while I’m creating, shooting or even taking a shower, I found that this combination of genres and melodies really helps me to feel grounded, embodied, and genuinely happy, I hope it will evoke those emotions in you too, but really no pressure :).

This playlist is a mix of different styles which connects within the chill genre. Here are a few artists I want to highlight:

#1 Me And My Friends

Me and My Friends are a UK quintet bringing the sound of English folk colliding head-on with afrobeat, highlife and roots reggae. This wiving of so much cultural music - from folk to afro American, to Jamaican created an authentic voice that I really never heard before. The combination of uplifting joyful rhythms along with deep and raw lyrics just did it for me.

#2 El Michel Affairs

El Michels Affair is an American cinematic soul group led by musician and producer Leon Michels. Based in New York, the group is noted for its wide-ranging influences, analog production approach, and hip hop collaborations. Although my ears don’t understand the language, the experience I got from it was heart opening, this song feels like a journey, like I go back in time. It is fresh. eclectic and so pure.

#3 Say She She

Say she she is a Brooklyn-based female band known for its dreamy harmonies, catchy hooks, and up-tempo grooves. This group has the whole package, beautiful and calming melodies, magical lyrics, and a unique voice. I listened to their ‘Prism’ album which dragged me down the rabbit hole of finding more and more tracks that I kept playing on and on and on.

#4 Lijadu Sisters

Lijadu Sisters were identical twin sisters from Nigeria who were a Nigerian music duo from the mid-1960s to the 1980s. They were known for their mixed Afrobeat sounds with jazz and disco. My ears can’t understand the lyrics, but my body keeps on dancing to it each time it is playing.

Press on the link and go on shuffle, let me know which song you resonated with the most!

Yours, Sapir
